| An Improvement on Synthesis of 4-Methylcatechol |

| Abstract：4-Methylcatechol was prepared from p-cresol via esterification with acetic anhydride，Fries rearrangement reaction and oxidation with H2O2 with an overall yield of 67%. The structure of this compound was confirmed with 1H NMR and elemental analysis. |
